The Business Tools Every Sleep Consultant Needs

Congratulations! You’re now a certified sleep consultant. You might be asking yourself, “Now what?”

First of all, welcome to the wonderful world of being a sleep consultant. We know you’re going to love helping mommas and little ones get sweeter sleep. We know this because in our industry we love to interact with each other, celebrate each other’s wins, and share tips and tricks. The way to be the best sleep consultant is to keep working with other sleep consultants. Once you’re set up on social media, come find us and share your wins, challenges, and anything else with us. We’re here to see you win!

Next you can use that same social media to start connecting with clients. Trust us, there are a lot of sleepy mommas out there and they will come to you. Don’t be shy. Answer those emails. Reassure that momma. They may become a client, they may not, but that’s okay. You’ll never know if you don’t talk to them. And the more you get settled, the more you’ll learn about boundaries. How much to give. When to give. When to give your offer for further assistance. These are all pieces you’ll start to develop on your own with practice, but remember, your community is here to guide you and help you on your journey.

It won’t be long until you’re taking your first clients. You’re going to be nervous. You’re going to be worried. It’s going to be intimidating and you’re probably going to overthink every move you make, every piece of advice you give, every question you ask, and every word you write down for the sleep plan you’ll hand to that tired momma. That’s okay. You’ll start to develop and grow with this as well, but remember, your community is here to guide you on your journey.

You’re going to be asking yourself, “Now what?” more times than you can count. And it’s okay. It means you’re curious. You’re growing. You’re learning. It means you’re making yourself into an excellent sleep consultant. And never forget, your community is here for you because we’re all in this together.

So, what should you have in your entrepreneur toolbox to help you become a successful sleep consultant?

This is a great question to ask if you’re just starting out AND if you’re re-evaluating your business progress.

  1. A business plan. If you’re an architect, you don’t build a house without a blueprint. A business plan helps you see the exact steps you need to take, where you need help, your strengths, and weaknesses.

  2. A community of like-minded people. We cannot stress this enough! Building your network with other sleep consultants who have the same drive and passion for the field will help you stay focused.

  3. Curiosity and a drive to keep learning. To be the best sleep consultant you can be, you need to stay up to date with information, studies, and trends.

  4. Branding. Branding is the process of showing who you are through words, imagery and action. This process actively supports your brand - or in this case, you! Before you start taking clients, you should have a visual design of  a logo, color palette, and typography set for consistency, know the voice and language you want to use with your clients and online, and be confident in the execution.

  5. Long term and short term goals. Wait, isn’t this a business plan? Yes and no. Your goals will support your business plan but can be a little more flexible to get you where you want to be financially and professionally. We set a mix of short and long term goals so we always know where we want to be and can celebrate all the steps we have taken to get there!

What do you think a sleep consultant needs to have in their entrepreneur toolbox to be successful?
